The Central Laboratory of Physico-Chemical Mechanics (CLPhChM) was established in 1972 as a department of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for research and development in the area of material science. The main objectives and priorities in its activity are the creation and evaluation of the properties of non-metallic construction composites: silicate materials (rapid hardening and high-strength concrete, expanding and self-compacting concrete, fibre reinforced concrete, etc.) and polymer materials (polymer concrete, polymer nanocomposites, fibre reinforced and strengthened polymers, polymer foams, etc.). The basic directions in the scientific activity of CLPhChM are related with research on the mechanical behaviour (deformation, strength, damage), the physico-chemical interactions, the structure and characteristics of non-metallic composite materials, as well as the solution of technological and construction problems. New composite materials have been developed, including technologies for obtaining them and methodologies for investigation. The research is based on the methods and approaches of mechanics, physics, chemistry, mathematics, etc., used independently or in combination at different structural levels. CLPhChM is equipped with apparatuses and has developed methodologies for prediction of deformability, prediction of long-term strength, quasi-static and dynamic testing, porosimetry, high-temperature testing, thermal analysis, infra-red spectroscopy, rheological investigations, chemical investigations. CLPhChM participates actively in the international scientific cooperation, including in a number of projects within the European Framework programmes. CLPhChM is actively engaged in introducing the European norms and production standards, in investigating and evaluating construction products. Presentation of CLPhChM (968 KB)
